Product timers

A product timer can show on all products, with products you exclude, on products you choose, on every product in the collections you choose, or on products with the tags you give, from Growth. Tag matching ignores capital letters. Custom position shows it only where you place the app block.

One product timer shows per product page. When several match, a tag timer beats a chosen products timer, which beats a collections timer, which beats an all products timer. Between two of the same kind, the older timer wins.

Top and bottom bars

A bar can show on every page, on the home page only, on all product pages, on products you choose, on products in collections you choose, on all collection pages, on collection pages you choose, or in a custom position. One bar shows per page.

Every page can exclude page types: the home page, collection pages, product pages, blogs, blog posts, the cart, search, and the 404 page. It can also exclude by URL, where the bar hides on any page whose address contains the text, and by keyword, where the keyword has to be a whole part of the path. The keyword sale hides the bar on /collections/sale but not on /collections/summer-sale.

Landing page timers

A landing timer shows at the top of all collection pages, with collections you exclude, on collections you choose, on the password page, or in a custom position. A timer on chosen collections beats an all collections timer on the same page. Changing any timer placement clears the products, collections, and exclusions chosen for the old one, so pick the placement first.

Countries and translations

From Growth, a timer can show only to visitors in the countries you choose. The country comes from Shopify, not from a lookup service of ours. A timer set to all the world steps aside for visitors in a country that has its own timer of the same type and placement, so one country can get its own version of a sale.

Also from Growth, timer text can be written for each of your store languages. Shoppers see their language, then your store default language where a translation is missing.

Targeting a timer, in four steps.

In order. Each step assumes the one before it is finished, so skipping one is how the last step fails for a reason that looks unrelated.

  1. Step one

    Choose the placement

Placement tab. Choose it before anything else, because changing it clears the lists under it.

  2. Step two

    Add products, collections, or exclusions

Products and collections come from the Shopify picker. Page exclusions sit behind Exclude specific pages.

  3. Step three

    Set the countries

All the world, or specific countries from Growth. Search the list by name or code.

  4. Step four

    Translate the text

From Growth. Fill the languages you sell in. Empty ones fall back to your default language.

Settings reference

The controls this page touches, with what each one does and the default the app ships where there is one.

Product placement
All products, chosen products, products in chosen collections, product tags from Growth, or custom position.
Bar placement
Every page, home only, all products, chosen products, products in collections, all or chosen collection pages, or custom position.
Landing placement
All collection pages, chosen collections, the password page, or custom position.
URL exclusion
Hides the bar on any page whose address contains the text. One per line.
Keyword exclusion
Matches a whole part of the path, so sale matches /collections/sale only.
Priority
One product timer, one bar, and one landing timer per page. Specific placements beat general ones, and the older timer wins a tie.
Countries
From Growth. The country comes from Shopify. An all the world timer steps aside where a country timer applies.
Translations
From Growth. Text per store language, falling back to your default language.

If this does not work

The failures most likely on this procedure, with the check that resolves each one. If none of them fit, we would rather have the store URL than a guess.

Send us the store URL
Two product timers match and the wrong one shows

Only one product timer shows per page, chosen by priority: tags, then chosen products, then collections, then all products, and the older timer on a tie. Narrow the placement of the one that wins, or show the second one with an app block.

The bar is missing on a page you expected

Check the exclusions. A URL exclusion matches any address containing the text, so a short one can hide more pages than you meant. Then check the placement itself, since home only and the collection options leave most pages out.

A country timer does not show for a visitor in that country

The country is the one Shopify has for the visit. If your store has a country selector, the shopper choice there can change it. Check the timer is published, then test with the selector set to that country.
