About

Tre is the Vietnamese word for bamboo.

TreStack is a small, independent studio in Vietnam. We build Shopify apps and nothing else, and right now that means one: TreStack Timer, a countdown timer that ships as a theme app extension.

The name is a claim about structure, not a mood.

A bamboo culm grows in segments. Each segment is closed at both ends by a joint, and the joint is the reason the whole thing carries weight instead of folding. Cut one segment out and the rest still stands. None of it is one solid piece pretending to be simple.

That is the shape we want the software to have. TreStack Timer is closed at both ends: it installs through an app embed, it is priced on its own, and it comes out without leaving anything in your theme files. The joint between our code and your store is a Shopify theme app extension, so there is one surface to get right, and every app after it will use the same one.

Bamboo also grows quickly, which is the part people quote and the part that is easiest to get wrong. Fast growing is only worth anything if each new segment is jointed to the last one. So releases stay small, dated, and written down, including the ones that fix something we broke.

Segments, joints, and load. In that order.

  • Segmented

    One app, one bill

A Free plan, or a paid plan billed by Shopify. Nothing else lands on your invoice.

  • Jointed

    One install path

An app embed turned on in the theme editor, so no theme file is ever edited.

  • Load bearing

    Built for live stores

One storefront script, 11.4 KB gzipped when measured, against a 15 KB target.

  • Fast growing

    Small dated steps

Releases stay small, and each one is dated in the changelog.

A small studio in Vietnam, working with merchants we will probably never meet.

Independent, with no outside timeline to hit. That has consequences worth knowing before you install something we made, so here they are instead of a page of values.

  1. Shopify, and nothing else

One platform, one extension model, one set of edge cases to actually learn. There is no WooCommerce build and no headless variant, so nothing here is a port of something written for another kind of store.

  2. The people who write it answer for it

Support email and the live chat in the app admin both reach the people who build the app. There is no first line queue between you and the code, which is one reason we ship one app at a time.

  3. One app, until it is quiet enough to leave alone

TreStack Review, TreStack Bundles, and TreStack Checkout Plus are planned after Timer. The next one starts when Timer no longer needs us every day, not when a category looks profitable.

  4. Our night is your afternoon

We work in one timezone and do not pretend otherwise. Write whenever it suits you, and expect a considered written answer from the same team rather than a reply in a minute.

What the studio is for, and what it is not.

What we build

What we will not build

Shopify apps, each one a theme app extension

One codebase stretched across every ecommerce platform

Rules in the admin, blocks in the theme editor

Snippets pasted into your theme files at install

One app, maintained properly before the next one starts

A new app each quarter to fill out a pricing page

Plans that differ only in what you publish and how many views

A suite you take whole to get one timer

Releases with a date attached, and a measured script size

Performance described in adjectives

Support answered by whoever wrote the code

A chatbot in front of a ticket queue
