What we are aiming at
WCAG 2.2 level AA is the target for the timers TreStack Timer puts on your storefront and for this website. Target is the honest word. We build and test against it and fix what we find, and we have not commissioned an independent audit, so this is a statement of current practice rather than a claim of certified conformance.
Accessibility on a storefront is a shared job. We control the timer markup, its focus behaviour, and what it tells a screen reader. You choose the colors, the type sizes, and where a timer sits, so contrast and placement are yours to check.
What the storefront timers do
- The countdown
- The clock is marked as a timer for assistive technology. A screen reader reads the time left when the shopper reaches it, rather than announcing every second, which would drown out everything else on the page.
- Units, not colons
- When a timer shows no unit labels, each number still carries a hidden unit name taken from your labels, so a screen reader says 14 Mins 05 Secs rather than 14 colon 05. The colons themselves are hidden from screen readers.
- The bar
- A top or bottom bar is a region named after its title, so a shopper can find it and skip it. Its close button is a real button labelled Close, with a larger touch target on phones.
- Keyboard
- The button, the close button, and a clickable bar can all be reached and used from the keyboard, and each gets a visible focus outline in the timer's own text color.
- Motion
- The storefront timer has no animation. The digits change, nothing slides or flips.
- Narrow screens
- Timers scale with the width they are given, and the clock wraps onto a second line instead of running off the screen.
Gaps we know about
Listing these is more useful to you than a page that claims everything passes.
- No independent third party audit has been carried out
- The close button label is Close in every store language, because it does not have a translation field yet
- The app does not check the contrast of the colors you pick, so a light text on a light background will be published as you set it
- An email timer is an image. The snippet gives it the alt text Countdown timer, which you can edit in your email tool, but the time left inside the image is not readable by a screen reader
- A theme that removes focus outlines globally can override the timer's own
This website
trestack.app is built with real headings, lists, tables, and native details elements rather than scripted look alikes, has no animation beyond hover color changes and the browser's own crossfade between pages, and holds to one light theme. The same WCAG 2.2 AA target applies, with the same caveat: no independent audit yet.
Reporting a problem
If something fails for you, tell us what you were using, which store and page, and what happened, at [email protected]. An accessibility report is treated as a bug rather than a feature request. If a fix will take time, we will tell you the workaround in the meantime.
