When the timer does not appear

A timer is published and the storefront does not show it. The causes, in the order worth checking, from the app embed to the page it is on.

Is anything showing at all

If no timer shows anywhere, the app embed is almost always off in your live theme. The app Home shows its status with a button to turn it on. Turning it on in a draft or a copy does not count, since each theme has its own switch.

Is the timer running right now

Published is not the same as running. A timer with a scheduled start in the future stays out of sight until then. A recurring timer shows only inside its window. A countdown to a date set to unpublish has gone at zero. A fixed minutes timer set to hide has gone for a shopper who reached zero, and a shopper who closed a bar does not see it again in that browser.

A save reaches the storefront after a short delay, so reload the page once if you have just published.

Does this page match

Check the timer placement and exclusions against the page you are on. Then check whether another timer of the same type wins on this page, since one product timer, one bar, and one landing timer show per page. Then check countries, if the timer targets some. A cart timer shows only while the cart has items.

A timer set to Custom position shows only inside an app block that holds its Timer ID. If no block has it, it shows nowhere.

Narrowing it down, in four steps.

In order. Each step assumes the one before it is finished, so skipping one is how the last step fails for a reason that looks unrelated.

  1. Step one

    Check the app embed

The status on the app Home, which reads your live theme.

  2. Step two

    Check it is running

Published, past its scheduled start, inside its window, not ended and hidden.

  3. Step three

    Check the page matches

Placement, exclusions, countries, and whether another timer of the same type wins.

  4. Step four

    Check in a private window

A fresh browser clears a closed bar or an ended countdown of your own. Then send us the store URL.

Settings reference

The controls this page touches, with what each one does and the default the app ships where there is one.

App embed
Must be on in the live theme. Its status is on the app Home.
Scheduled start
The timer is out of sight until the start time.
Recurring window
The timer shows only inside the window, in your shop timezone.
Closed bar
Stays closed for that shopper in that browser.
One per spot
One product timer, one bar, and one landing timer per page, chosen by priority.
Custom position
Needs an app block holding the Timer ID. Without one the timer shows nowhere.

If this does not work

The failures most likely on this procedure, with the check that resolves each one. If none of them fit, we would rather have the store URL than a guess.

Send us the store URL
You have checked all of it and the timer is still missing

Send the store URL, the page, the timer name, and what you ruled out. We will look at the page itself rather than ask you to repeat the same checks.

It shows for you and not for a colleague, or the other way round

One of you probably closed the bar or reached zero on a per visitor timer in that browser. Compare in private windows. If the timer targets countries, compare the country too.
